LONG FORM 1: the harold

We begin our journey into long form by focusing on the original, classic long form of improv: the Harold. By diving into this form, we will begin using all of the scene work and long form tools learned throughout Intermediate 1-3. The Harold will begin to focus students on the myriad of tools available to an improviser in long form. Along with this, it also focuses student’s attention on the Pointless Philosophy of Improv: relationship based scene creation, callbacks, and thru-lines (play with what you created).

Thursdays @ 7-10 PM

August 15 - October 10, 2019
*NO CLASS THURSDAY AUGUST 29*

Teacher: Matthew Flickinger

Showcase: Sunday, October 6 @ 2 pm

LONG FORM 2: the deconstruction

The Deconstruction makes us focus and work on important, yet different, aspects of long form form The Harold. Patient scene creation is the heart and thru-line of a Deconstruction with its Source Scene. The Deconstruction also helps us deconstruct what we see from the backline: Themes, Commentary, and Tangents. By focusing on these deeper aspects of what we see while not in a scene in long form, we can bring even deeper connections and thru-lines in our long form.

LONG FORM 3: the performer

The final class in the Pointless School of Improv, this class brings it all together! The means by which this will be done is through hyper focus on the individual improviser. This class will give each student a plethora of individual notes on things that they excel at, things they are good at, and things they need to focus on going forward, both in the class and beyond the PSI class structure. Learn to let go, challenge yourself as an improviser to do things and go places you normally never would, and play with all the tools at your disposal.
